Applications

Methyl gallate has been extensively studied because it possesses a lot of biological activity such as antiplatelet action, protection of DNA damage against oxidative stress, reduction of lung injury induced by phosgene, attenuation of diabetic oxidative stress, and antiapoptotic activity. It protects a diversity of cells including liver cells, kidney cells, heart cells, neuronal cells, and fat cells from oxidative stress induced by chemicals such as hydrogen peroxide. It upregulates antioxidant enzymes. It inhibits three key enzymes crucial to the HIV life cycle including reverse transcriptase, protease, and integrase. Methyl gallate inhibits HIV-1 replication in pseudovirus-infected TZM-BL cells.
